My 300D's first taste of B100...

Hello all!

Yesterday I filled up with my first tank of B100. Since I had a 1/4 tank of dino, I guess that makes it really B75. All rubber fuel lines have been changed out, BTW.

A month ago I swapped out the engine and tranny mounts, and replaced the broken engine shocks. After the replacement, I still had a slight side to side engine rocking that could be seen under the hood and felt in the car after a highway run. Adjusting the IP rack damper did not help. Cracking open the fuel lines to find an unhappy injector did not reveal anything either.

Anywho...I ran errands since I was off work yesterday which equated to 50 miles of highway running. I noticed a difference in the car at the end of the run. The rocking of the engine is gone, and the idle is much smoother. I also noticed the fogging of headlights behind me at night was also lighter.

I do have extra primary and secondary filters on hand, so no worries there.

Well, bio-d is on it's way to convincing me it's the fuel and fuel system cleaner of choice.

Biodiesel...

I had the same improvement.....Now all you need is a restaurant to give you the free oil and start brewing it yourself....cost me a little under $1.00 a gallon....also a lot of fun......my two Benzes love it....

Your Benz won't be the only thing loving it, your wallet will too. Even if you buy biodiesel from your local supplier, your engine will run better, your emissions will clean themselves up and your pre-combustion chamber filled with carbon from dino-Diesel will clear out too! After a few oil changes, you will also be able to see through your motor oil as it will no longer be turning black!!! SO THERE!

No!

Why would his motor oil stop turning black?

You're pulling his chain!

Ditto on the engine running better! But do be ready to change out filters! I've gone through about 25 in maybe 5k miles. Also, after a couple of thousand miles on bio, get an extra fuel tank strainer and have a mechanic change it out at the same time of an oil change. They charged me $15 extra to do it and it was clogged with seaweed looking chunky munky!

I also agree on brewing your own--been doing mine for six months or so, and the car loves it!

Soot, soot. soot!

You won't be able to keep your oil clean and clear until you clean the soot out of it. While the new ULSD and bio create much less you can only get rid of most of the soot by installing a good bypass filter.

You guys aren't running bANYTHING below 34 degrees right? If it gets colder you are going to start looking for new engines/injectors/pumps.

It got down to 28 last night. I use a block heater whenever the temp is supposed to below 60. I had no problems starting up this morning.

Next on the list is a water separator.

The cloud point of the bioDiesels ranges, soy is ~34 degrees and iirc fat is 55. Block heater or no I wouldn't suggest using bANYTHING in the winter.

However what are the ill effects? Just a clogged fuel system? I dont know the answer to that.

I usually run a mix in winter - B70 or even B50 and have had no fuel issues. I have wondered though on startup if the fuel is cloudy if that damages things.

What about a fuel heater, like the one bergsma sells at **************.com? It uses a glow plug and installs right inline. I imagine if you put it right ahead of the ip, that could really help. But it wouldn't heat the fuel from ip forward, but maybe the block heater can get warm enough to keep that fuel from clouding.

Thoughts?
