300d low power?

I have a 1983 300d turbo. I have very low power. It is almost scary to drive. Does anyone know how much turbo psi I should be building. I get no smoke and it runs smooth. thx for any help

Have you cleaned the banjo bolt and checked the function of the turbo switch over valve?

How are the fuel filters?

IIRC, turbo boost pressure is between 7 and 12 psi.

Is the kickdown working right on the trans? If it shifts too soon it will never get in the RPM sweetspot between 2500 and 4,000. Does it improve if you manually shift? Could the fuel filters be restricted? Is the banjo fitting on the banjo bold on the back of the intake manifold and is it clean.

you may want to check all your vacuum lines that go to the ALDA. I found that many of my vacuum lines were clogged with EGR TAR, which is a nasty mixture of Soot and Oil.

Those are pressure line, and are unrelated to the vacuum system, but it is a good idea to check and clean them. If they are plugged you will lose power.

If all of the above in the previous replies is correct, then move on to a valve adjustment and have injection pump timing checked once you know that your throttle linkage is is moving freely from idle to full acceleration. These things could cause you to lose power too.

Does the car shift to soon? If so you might need to adjust the bowden cable as well. You may not be getting the rpm high enough to get the power you should be getting.
