124 won't start. No fuel to injectors
I'm back to working on my 87 300D. The last time I tried to start it, the engine was "hunting" for an idle, going from 1K then back to 750rpm...back and forth. Now, it will not start at all. Here is what I've done so far:
Cleaned the vacuum line and fitting from the intake manifold to the switchover valve (I think that's where it goes). Somewhat gummed up at the intake but the line was clear. Removed the line going to the spin on fuel filter. Lots of fuel being pumped to it. Shut off valve works as it should (stays in the up position during starting) Cracked the line to the #1 injector (nearest the radiator) and no fuel flows. I even removed the vacuum line from the shutoff valve during one test but still, no fuel to the injectors. I've searched the archives but am pretty stumped. I think that the problem may be with the fuel rack position sensor because I had the idle hunting earlier. I read the FSM, found the overload protection relay and it seems to be fine (not corroded). What else can I do? Thanks, Clint

fuel delivery
Loosen all the lines on the injectors to see if anything is leaving the injection pump....If not take off the return line from the IP back to the filter housig to see if fuel is getting to and leaving the IP.....

could be something simple like fuel not getting to the pump at all, there's lots of posts on troubleshooting this issue, but the gist of it is make a temporary fuel tank out of an old bottle and set that up in your engine.
here's some a post with tips: 300TD Wagon,Won't Start. Do an advanced search for the keyword "start" and make sure to only search the "diesel discussion" forum. It will return lots of results, but using more than one keyword just messes up the search engine here.

Thanks for the replies. I have a very good fuel flow into the IP as indicated by disconnecting the fuel line into the IP and, while turning the engine over, had lots of fuel pumping out of the line. Nothing appears to be leaving the IP though.

Ip
You could still remove all the lines leaving the IP and crank to see if any fuel at all is jetting from the IP delivery valves.....Use a towel to soak the fuel up...use eye protection because of the high pressures....Crank while holding accel pedal down for the test....could be a stuck rack...or improperly attached shutoff valve....I would also have a thick piece of wood to block the intake in case you get a runaway diesel situation since you may be dealing with unknown rack issues.....in case it does start while troubleshooting after you get it back together.....

IP Prob.
Forgot to ask....When you say (nothing is leaving the IP)...Are you speaking of from the (delivery valves) or nothing leaving the IP (fuel return line back to the filter housing)...?

Oops, sorry for the ambiguity. There is no fuel entering the injector. With the line removed from the injector, no fuel comes out of the hard line.
