help-diesel leak

hi,

I just adjusted my valves and when I put it all back together and checked for oil leaks I noticed the little hose on the top of the #5 injector is now bubbling diesel. its enough to drip down and make a spot on the pavement. what is this hose and what can I use to replace it? it is the stubby hose on top in the picture.

Its the fuel return line. Just order some new ones and replace them all why you are at it. They are supposed to be changed every 2-3 years but those are probably original. The one you speak of on the #5 injector is a little plug, do not loose the plug when you remove the stub and put a new line inplace. Ill go see if I have some line left and I can mail you some if I can find it.

what can I do while I wait for parts? is there a line I can buy locally? Also, does it just pull off?

That hose is Just to close off the injector return passage on the last injector in the line. At the other end of the injector string you will see a hose that goes back to the fuel tank. It is a hose with a braided cover. Go ask any volkswagon dealer for a couple of inches of it and find a tight fitting short machine screw to seal one end. They get old and they rot and start to leak and semi vulcanise on sometimes so you might have to cut up one side carefully to remove any part of it that remains on the nipple. It is known as injector return line hose material. You will notice the same material running between all the injectors. You could also get a piece of it off an old mercedes or volkswagon diesel if it still seemed good as well. Auto wrecker might give it to you even. Remember it is not expensive to buy new.

It pulls right off. I do not know the exact size i'll guess its at least 5/16" ID. pm me your address and I'll ups it to you. I'll send you enough to replace all of the lines since I got a crap load of it for free.If you want it, up to you. I would drive out to lutz if I had alot of fuel to help ya.

The piece already in the line is reusable.

they just pull off. when they're real old and if you've been using biodiesel, they get gummy and are a PITA to pull off.

order some lines and if you're really concerned (diesel isn't combustible) about it, go to the local auto store and grab some small low pressure fuel line and replace. 1/8" line should do the trick, grab the thinnest walled stuff you can find.

Do you have any fuses for your car? I'll toss in a bunch of those if you need them.

thanx Don but I have the fuses covered. I finally stopped by the MB dealer and bought 3 kits and replaced them all with the new style. That cut down a lot of my issues. I have the fuel leak and fuse issues done. now for the cooling and cruise control. I am hoping the new actuator I have on the way will solve the CC issue, but at this point everything checks ok and still no cruise so I am resorting to replacing parts. my actuator had a terrible grind noise so I am hoping that is the issue
