I can verify that they do in fact hurt if you are shot with one.

They do sting, but it's nothing powerful. They are dangerous- could take out an eye or something.

You can buy a 750fps BB airgun at wal-mart for under $50 that I know will penetrate the skin.

Great for squirrels and rabbits but it will just tick off raccoons.

Boy, has this thread gone astray. Anyway, I still have a BB in my hand from when I was 12 and playing with the BB gun without my parent's permission. I got shot in the palm and it lodged just below the skin on the back of my hand.

I couldn't tell my parents what I was guilty of and to this day you can feel the BB just under the skin between the third knuckles of my index and middle finger. I'm glad it was a copper one instead of lead Never has caused me a problem, but yes, they do penetrate skin.
