3 vacuum lines 5 holes, help or picture please

Hi,

well after my valve adjustment on my 84 300D this weekend I definitely can feel the difference in power. the only thing is now the tranny shifts through all the gears before I hit 30 mph. The only thing I was not sure of when putting it back together was the vacuum lines on the top of the valve cover. there is a short line from the exhaust side and two bundled together from the injector side. these go into the rubber on the front of the plastic cover mounted on the top of the valve cover. I thought the lines went in the top 3 holes and the lower two holes were open. can someone confirm the placement of the lines or take a picture of theirs?

How about we get rid of all three lines and toss 'em in the trash?

Think you're up for that?

The lines run the EGR system.........a system that you don't want anyway.

sure, simple is good too. do I just remove them and plug the vacuum source? I thought these caused the shifting difference. Is there another reason my shift points have lowered so dramatically?

1) Remove the one line that goes from the black box to the passenger side. It goes to a temperature switch in the thermostat housing. Toss it in the trash.

2) Remove one of the lines that goes from the black box to the driver's side.......back near the fuse box. It goes into a T. Toss it in the trash. Now, you've got an open hole in the T. Remove the T and toss it in the trash. Now, you've got two plastic lines. Connect the two lines with a short piece of hose.

3) Remove the second of the two lines that goes from the black box to the driver's side.........back near the fuse box. It also goes into a different T. Toss it in the trash. Now, you've got an open hole in that T. Remove the T and toss it in the trash. Now you've got two plastic lines again. Connect these two lines with a short piece of hose.

4) There is a final hose that goes from the temperature switch on the thermostat housing to the EGR valve. Pull this line and toss it in the trash.

5) Pull the rubber plug off the black box and toss it in the trash.

Now, you've got a nice and organized engine compartment.

You shifting problem could be due to the bowden cable. It on the valve cover and it drops down on the back end of the engine and goes to the transmission. If you too any part of the throttle linkage off you may have inadverently adjusted the cable. Do a search on which way it need to be turned to make shifts later.

Biodiesel300TD is on the money with the Bowden cable.

I'll bet that you failed to pop the socket on the end of the cable back onto the throttle linkage ball........and you have, effectively, no cable action at the transmission.

I will check the cable and play with the adjustment. I marked the top of the cable square snap when I pulled it off and I am sure I snapped the ball back on.
