Thanks for Diesel dialouge
I've visited this site for the past 2 years without registering and never posting a post. I finally did and as my first post I'd like to say this is one of the most informative sites in automotive threads. I own a couple of other make of cars that have simuliar sites but not to the degree of knowledge displayed in this forum. The passion for MB diesels is evident in the members of this site. Thanks for all of the advice and keep posting as i'm excited about starting to post the many things 1've learned in working on my 123 and 124 Diesel Benzs.

On behalf of myself I like the ideal of welcoming a peeping Darrell onto the site.. Two years of peeping is not a record probably but still pretty impressive in itself. I also agree with your general observations. Of note as well is the fact that members will be requesting more and more information on those 124s from those with experience as time goes on. Not too many of us have them yet. We will be patiently waiting till you get yours into perfect condition, if it is not already, before one of us buys it. I also look forward to reading of your experiences as well.

One of the most interesting aspects of this site is the broad range of age. These cars appeal to a certain "segment' of every age group. We're all aware of the impact of bio diesel, lota young guys getting into these cars around here, brewing "juice" in the garage. (right here in River City ) Then at the other end, semi retired guys, and lots in the middle. we don't have many ladies, maybe that will change as diesels become more popular.

Welcome to the forum.
Glad it served to provide you with the info you needed. Feel free to post any questions in a new thread if you can't find what you're looking for in the DIY forums. Also, remember that purchasing parts from the site (buy parts at the top of the page) helps keep the forum going. |

I dislike being a parrot but supporting this site is very important to all of us as Brian mentions. I think we are all aware of that. Yet it does no harm to reinforce it from time to time. It is hosted by a good knowledgeable guy.
I am not allowed to support it through parts purchases myself unfortunatly as I reside in Canada and he does not mail to here. I will be setting up a mail drop at a border town this spring because of this. I have tried by request to get an exemption from the site host. Perhaps the rule will change sometime. At times I try to add a little humour as stress relief and hope I offend no one. This site has a very diverse user base as well. New blood is very important as I have come to realise as well. People such as yourself that are getting 124 experience are an important addition as I mentioned. For example I noticed a thread on a 1984 four cylinder diesel just the other day. We do not seem to have a lot of guys on board that own one at present. His question up till now is probably not answered. Or possibilities suggested. I know I continually learn things that can be transposed to other cars and situations. Best auto type site I have ever seen by far thanks to the active participants. I could even get out on a limb and say without it I would feel a lot more uncomforatable owning these older diesels we like. |

Welcome Darrell
I couldn't agree with you more about this site. I joined, and I don't even have a Mercedes! Originally I was Googling diesel engine information and found this site. After spending some time here reading, it was obvious to me that not only is there a great collective intelligence here, but there is also a very strong sense of family present. This group is much more like a large family than all other automotive forums I've been in. I like that. Some day I may have the chance to own a diesel Mercedes. Until then, I can reflect in their own enjoyment. Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome. As busy as my life is thank God for the opportunity to power-down by emerging into the world Mercedes Benz Diesels. As for the 124s, I'll post my experiences as they occur. Thus far I've made the basic repairs such as fuel filters, fuel return lines, o-rings, vaccum lines, etc. The biggest repair at 307k was replacement of the transmission with a $600.00 used one. I also replace the Injection pump with a $300.00 used version. The car now has 321k and is strong as ever. I enjoy driving it..

Considering the availibility of other vehicles in the stable and constant inquiry from the wife on why do you drive those two old MBs all the time speaks to the passion these and other diesel vehicles bring.. 1978 300D 182K, 1987 300D 321K, 1995 BMW 525i 170k, 1999 MAZDA B2500 137K, 1999 Ford Explorer 135k, 1999 E320 92K, 2000 LIN NAVIGATOR 97K, 2003 LEXUS ES300 58k
