Question EGR has had no vacuum applied to it, now Im plugging it, what to expect?

I have currently disabled my EGR and intend to physically remove it ASAP, uhhhhh, for some mudding I do on the weekends....

But, for the time being I discovered the EGR vacuum input has been open and not plugged as usually prescribed. It has been this way since I got the car, and suspect it was like this for a while.

Now, when I plug the EGR will I notice a big difference? Big increase in smoke? Anything else?

Also, my thermo vacuum valve vacuum inputs are broken, and I can't connect anything to it. Is going to affect anything until I remove the system entirely? I don't udnerstand what this guy does.

Thanks,
dieseldan44

I did not see a difference in my car without an egr compared to with. But I discovered 6 months after I removed the EGR someone in the past put a BB in the vacuum line off the amplifier for the EGR/ARV.

My '82 Federal spec emissions does not have an ARV.

Brian Carlto did an excellent write up on how to remove or bypass the EGR, as well as removing the 3-2 valves on top of the valve cover.

That's the thermostatic vacuum valve, as you have noted. It prevents operation of the EGR valve when the engine is cold. All lines to and from the vacuum valve can be eliminated.

If you plugged an open vacuum line, you'll probably notice that the shifts will soften a bit..........but........maybe not. Just try it and report back.

Thanks Brian. Went for a drive tonight...

I had already eliminated all the lines going to the thermo valve/EGR when going through my transmission vacuum. I have just removed the 3/2 valve and all lines going to and from.

So when i plugged the EGR vac line instead of leaving it open tonight I noticed no difference at all, with anything. Woudnt expect any shifting difference since the trans vac is already sealed ouff from the EGR junk.

What should I do with the thermo vacuum valve in the meantime? Its not connected to anything right now...

Nothing. It just sits there with nothing connected to it. You can't remove it because it has a special fine thread. I never found any metric plug even close to those threads.

Oooh
My TVV is broken too
I was going to try to remove & replace it
but opted to wait & bring it to a shop

I couldn't get to it well
did try to neasure the hex
seemed like it could be 18mm
Mine is on intake man nehind WUR

Car is 83 500 SEC

Car starts & runs
though it does seem different
Starts to idle more lumpy
when temp reaches the 50C of that red TVV

So can't figure that if its not hooled up to anything

I do have 2 red TVV's behind the WUR

The ones broken was connected to WUR & a quad connected to dis vac valve / air inhect valve which is connected to other side of intake amd
& some other line I can't trace

I currently have these 2 homeless ports connected togther

So this tvv can never be replaced?

they sell it

its a screw in valve with a hex nut...

I read it again
Do you mean remove it and then insert a plug to fill the hole?

If you don't want the Tvv just leave it in
seems if its not connected to anything it doesdn't affect anything as its its own loop & not directed connected into intake
