2-3 shift is too firm now?
My SDL is running again, and now it's shifting pretty damn hard at low throttle input for the 2-3 shift... as if it had a vac leak. All the lines and rubber is new... Fluid and filter are new within 10k miles. 1-2 and 3-4 are okay.
Where the hell should I start to look?

How long did it sit?
I do not think it's vacuum if the other shifts are fine. May have something sticking in the tranny since it sat up. But, you never know. To rule out vacuum, get out the miti vac and test the system.

Hell, 10-12 weeks? I too started to think it could be a sticking accumulator.
Where are the test procedures?

I went through this exercise with Brian two months ago. I can email you the data he was looking for if you want. It was vac at various rpms during driving. you hook up the mityvac with a t after the amplifier, drive and check vac.

Could try I trans fluid and filter change. I don't know that it would do much but it wouldn't hurt anything.

Get a vacuum gauge and T it into the transmission modulator output line (from the vacuum amplifier). Run the gauge into the cabin and drive the vehicle. Note the vacuum at minimal pedal, moderate pedal, and at maximum power.
Report back with results. |

Will a Mityvac work?

Okay cool. Aside from this banging into 3rd and the clutch fan falling off, the car is running well.

Had an idea -
Would a crossed vac line cause my problem? I did have the IP out. I can't seem to find a vac diagram

If you reversed them, I'm sure the system won't be liking it much......... |

The check valve is on the side toward the radiator and the "Y" near the firewall, if that's the VCV. Here is the diagram I found - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/diesel-discussion/27433d1120505722-603-vac-diagram-603vac.jpg

That's the correct diagram. It appears that you've plumbed it properly. That is the VCV that your are referring to. BTW, you can eliminate everthing on the passenger side of the engine, if you wish. |

Okay updates -
Vac system is all correct in the proper spots. Going to pick up vac gauge tomorrow early afternoon (or whenever I decide to wake up) for testing. Now I did pull on the TV cable to reattach it to the ball+socket and got me to wondering if I made it go too far down to the pressure valve in the valve body. But it still would not explain why the 1-2 shift is fine and the 2-3 will bang even with no throttle input nor with any increased TV pressure. Are those small green deals check valves? Also, is there a way to test that solenoid next to the vac amplifier?
