Diesel-heads, I bring you a 20-year-old wagon with a quarter of a million miles on it from the heart of the rust belt. Seller has no feedback and wants $10K for the car? You've got to be kidding me. I hope PT Barnum was wrong and no one gets suckered into this one. |

Dent on drivers door about a foot wide.
Small ding on drivers side by the back edge of the back window. The rear seats have deep butt marks, but the front seats do not. Either there was lots of action in the back seats or those front seats have been replaced/stuffed. Not a single shot of the bottom of the car. Great, he cleaned the engine. I wonder what it looked like before it was cleaned. I love those rumble seats! -Jim

yeah its a MB tex thing, even in my sedan its the same thing in the rear. The 300SD has leather and it doesnt have that "butt indentation" that MB tex has.

Here is how I look at this. True zero feedback is risky, but it may be to someones advantage. Call this person up, you might find that they are a dealership and have a good reputation, point out to them all of the faults you guys are noting and then submit an offer. You never know, they may actually take $4,000 for it. Chasin, I think its great that you got 3 cars for $3,400, but if you had a rare car like an 87 300TD how would you list it on Ebay?
I thought I remember their name from somewhere, check out the other cars that haven't been sold, one is an older wagon: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewListedItems&since=30&userid=benz-depot&include=0&rows=50&sort=3&completed=1

Looking at their prior auctions, they have accepted a number of best offers back in early December yet no feedback. Doesn't bode well for the seller

They've only been registered since Novenmber, So I don't think a goosegg means 'bad news'. Kinda unfair to make a snap judgement like that, IMO.( remember when banks gave you a free toaster for opening an account? Well, Ebay doesn't give you an instant feedback rating). I have seen many W124 300TDs going in the five digits, especially on the west coast.
Yeah, I paid mid $4k for mine, and I've got to spend a fair bit to get it into the shape of that guys (dent noted too) He's accepting offers, so I'd assume he isn't stuck on the 10K number. He may go to the auctions for his inventory, so despite him being in Chicago (he does say it's excellent, and I don't see any rust) the car could have come from anywhere. I think how it was cared for is more important than where it came from. I just find it a little annoying when someone immediately starts slamming a new seller cuz he has something that looks better than the slammer's car. I look at it the other way 'round; maybe mine might be worth more someday too. |

87 may have been the only year for the W124 diesel wagon, but they sure did import a lot of 'em. Considering how many I see for sale just in the Central Texas area on a consistent basis, it's a bit of a stretch to call one rare. The MkII Golf Diesel is much more rare, but I couldn't sell mine for more than $2k.
