Question Drain hole near battery... ????

Hi all,

I've read from folks to clear out the drains under the hinges near the hood (done!), and also in the firewall. Took me a long while to find out what a firewall was. But I could not find the drain hole behind the battery. I have a 1978 300d, and that battery is HEAVY. Is it necessary to take out the battery to find this drain hole? Is it above, below, to the left or to the right? It's been impossible to locate so far. Could anyone give me a hint?? Is there a trick to finding it?

Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is to the left of the battery where the fenderwell meets the firewall.
you may need to not only remove the battery to see it, you may need to remove the battery tray itself. I can take pictures of my 78D's battery area (I have already removed the tray... RUST)
John.

That drain behind the battery got clogged up really bad on my 85 300d. It got so rusty it ate a little hole into the firewall, then when water collected behind the battery it just ran right into the passenger side of the cabin. I thought for sure I was dealing with a leaky windshield, mainly because once I had the battery out I still couldn't find the hole because it was so rusted and clogged. Good luck.
