1984 300SD oil cooler line wrong size
Helo everyone,
I searched on this subject for a couple of hours, but couldn't find anything. I recently bought some new oil cooler lines for my 1984 300SD. However when I went to install them I found that my new upper line was not the same bent shape as my old one. It is roughly the same, but at the point where the lines are clamped to the engine block it is different. Because of this the two lines will not mate to each other properly at this point and the clamp will not fit over them. The part number is 617 180 0582 which is what is called for on this car I believe. The hose was made by Cohline. I was just wondering if anyone has had this experience before and if there is another part number that I should try. Thanks, Gilbert |

You ever get that "t" in next to the aux h20 pump? |

well, there are several serial number breaks for parts like oil lines and such on these cars i believe. You probably got the early serial number and needed the late serial number, or vise versa. I went through something very similar with my 79 300CD, and i just ended up going down to my local Parker Hydraulics store and picked up some German DIN fittings and made my own oil cooler lines. Worked out great, and ended up increasing my flow rate and cooling of the oil.

I didn't have an issue with the OE lines for the SD. As far as I am aware, there is a single part number for the lines.........independent of chassis number.
Is it an aftermarket line..........not quite bent properly? You do have a decent amount of adjustment because of the hose connection |

Sorry for not getting back with more info on this sooner guys. I ended up going to my friendly independant Mercedes Parts store and he had the correct hose. I don't think he even looks at the numbers, he just knows which one fits my car. I ordered the original hose in the first post from AZ ******** (My apologies to Phil and the Fastlane guys) and it was the same number that was listed on their website, so I do not know what the deal was with that hose. The bending on it was too straight and too far off to have been bent incorrectly. I think that it was stocked incorrectly or something and it just went to a different car. Hey Billybaru, what's up. I did finally put the "T" for my coolant return at the auxilliary pump. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be and your post at Frybrid definately helped me to feel that I could get it done. Unfortunately, I did not really notice an appreciable shortening of warm up time even with the pump wired to always be on. Oh well, it was fun anyway to try. Also, nice job on the engine pull and flex disc replacement. I really do not look foward to ever having to pull my engine. I'd like to meet you sometime, however we live pretty far apart. See you in the ether(net).
Thanks to all you guys and ladies for just being the nice people that you are, Gilbert |
