Thumbs down This SDL, I swear. No fuel now?

Well I go to start it about 2.30pm and it sputtered for a bit then died. I figured, hey cold 603... reheat plugs and fire it off...

No such luck. I am not getting fuel to the IP. I have it at the IP lift pump to the fuel filter and I assume the middle fitting on there is the supply to the IP and the last is the return.

Anyway, I removed that bolt at the IP and fuel poured out. So I DON'T think the fuel filter is plugged as it seems to flow from there to the UP just not up into the Delivery Valves and then to the injectors.

I tried cranking it for a while. No dice. Opened lines and cranking, no dice. There isn't even fuel in the injector overflow lines.

Can that bolt at the IP plug up? I blew air through it and seemed okay but the orifice is tiny.

1.check timing chain and timing device.

Whew
'got the ugly part over.I hope that is inapplicable.
(please use O.R. cleanliness around the I.P. ...a speck of dust can cause
unpleasant events.)

Someone tell me I'm wrong...If you've got fuel to the I.P. and none at the
delivery valves (much less the injector line cap nuts on the injectors), It's
an internal pump (I.P.) problem.[assuming the pump IS being driven by the
timing device and chain]

Parked flat, 1/3 tank of fuel.

Nothing exploded. It sputtered and died. Did it again before I gave up for the night. I removed the side panel last night to reseal it and where the rack actually moves only contains oil as I can tell... so I don't think it's a fuel issue through the IP.

I'm wondering if that banjo bolt is bad. I blew air through it and it didn't have much flow. The easy to access one has just two small holes...

I am almost certain the lift pump is working, the supply line to the IP filled up. I guess I can check it tomorrow.

Sounds like a failed lift pump. I'd check to make sure it is putting out what its supposed to.

Interesting note: According to the FSM these engines should quickly self bleed after a fuel filter change because of there high volume lift pumps.

Mine most certianly does not, wonder if our lift pumps are getting weak? After 20 years it wouldn't surprise me.

I have a few spare IPs, I'll use an extra pump and see.

Anyone have a part number on it?

Also, is there a way to test it?

Same problem..please send me the PDFs also

Hatterasguy,
I am having the same problem as HitManX. Please send me the PDFs as well. My 603 is behaving exactly the same. I have flow from the lift pump but nothing coming from the delivery valves. I'd like to validate sufficient flow from the lift pump as well.
Thanks,
Clint

What about that trick of pinching the return line when the engine won't start?

Have you tried starting the engine with the vacuum line to the shut-off actuator disconnected?
