Diesel fuel conditioner and pump lubricant
Hello everyone...i first want to introduce myself, i'm new here. My name is Andrew and i'm from the mid-hudson valley in New York. I have an1982 300D
I was just curious what everyone uses for Diesel conditioner or injector cleaner. I know there are some good ones out there but just wondering what the best is. I'm also wondering if anyone has used any of the products made by BG and about how much they cost. Thanks everyone. -Andrew |

For myself, I use no conditioner, but do run a qt of ATF every 3-4 tankfuls to keep injectors clean

also used diesel purge
Made my bad engine run better but still had a knock so replaced it. The purge works for fuel related issues but not for a loose bearing.

Here's a little tip to save you some money. ATF has been known to cause injector coking, so you can stop using it. If you're worried about dirty injectors, run some Techron additive when problems arise.

Diesel Purge every 15K miles just in case to clean everything up. Redline 85+ every fillup (about 2 ozs. per tank).

Fuel Additive
The Bosch Injection shop here sells only Stanadyne....It does seem to give it a bit more pep....smells just like Diesel Purge....
The Lucas brand fuel lubricant seems to make it run smoother..... Of course all this could be in my head.....I am fuel additive dysfunctional... A result of 51 years of advertising brainwashing... Too much fun in a can...!

Diesel Hi-Test is a good additive for "in the tank" treatment. Diesel Purge is not an "in the tank" treatment, all benefits of this product are lost if you pour it into your tank. Well maybe not all benefits, but that's not the intended usage.
Both these products and many more (including "how-to") can be found here: http://dieselgiant.com/diesel_parts_for_sale.htm

I use ELF DALF every 10000Km, otherwise I use premium grade diesel available here which comes with its own additivie package usually Techroline from Chevron, works out quite well. No smoke from a 78000 mile engine.

Standyne Performance Formula
I have been using Standyne Performance Formula for the past couple of months......was recommended by the Bosch FI Shop......
Because I had already done a LM Diesel Purge, and had been using Power Service (Silver Container)......before I got to the Bosch folks here locally.....I don't have any data as far as my OM617.952 is concerned.....however, because the Bosch FI folks had such high regard for Standyne Performance Formula, I tried using it in a Yanmar excavator, that was experiencing a loss of power and smoking heavily.....have used about half of the container (30 gal fuel).....and the excavator performance has improved markedly....not smoking at all, power has returned...... Standyne Performance Formula cost is $10.00 per container...treats 60 gallons Power Service, Silver is about $7.00 per container and treats 50 gallons at it's maximum Cetane boost of 6, or 100 gallons for a Cetane boost of 3 So, I think I will eventually run the Power Service for the most part, and a container of the Standyne every 3 months or so....... SB

Power service "white" in the winter and "grey" in the summer (6 oz. per tank). Lubro Moly Diesel Purge right before changing fuel filter. I might switch to B20 this summer to see how that goes now that I have found a location for bio blends near my work.

I put ATF in the fuel filter when I change them. That's about it.
As far as the coking issue, everything including diesel fuel causes coking. Danny
