Turbo tranny -> non turbo tranny?
How much difference is there? I have a line on an turbo engine and transmission. I dont need the transmission if I cant swap it into my wifes 80 300TD (NA).

no.
the turbo tranny is beefier. i am in the same situation with my 300cd. i have a bad tranny in it and a good one lying in the gar. but it is from the na car. it will match up and work but wont hold up as long. i would do it but if i go to sell the car i would have to tell folks it didnt have the right tranny. maybe with a car this old folks wouldnt care, but i am reluctant to put in the weaker tranny. tom w

But putting a turbo tranny into a non-turbo car would work, and maybe last longer, correct?

So there's no such thing as a turbo-specific tranny? Sounded weird anyway.

You misread that. prior to 82 was NA.

Ahh, thanks for pointing that out. I was thinking 81 was the first year for Turbo.

The turbo trannies will not only be beefier, but also likely have different shift points and certainly a different stall speed/torque converter for the different power curve of the turbo engine.
If a turbo trans will bolt up I don't see the harm in using it on an na, might affect acceleration but playing with the bowden cable will likely help some.

local indy says the 4 bolt pan , no turbo tranny;s are tougher. dont know why. i have a turbo with tranny that leaks like cray and a good one from a NA. i was thinking about a swap if i cant fix other with ease. i am mainly concerned with how it will drive. anyone ever had an old na tranny in a turbo?
