Thanks. The thing is a blast to drive. The MT643 shifts perfect and it will do 75 mph at about 2500 rpm's. Not sure what the torque rating is, but the thing has nuts. It is a Bosch IP and alot like the one in our Mercedes, but it shuts off mechanically which is real nice. No vacuum stuff.

UPS is using a large 4 cylinder MBZ diesel in their new package cars. The drivers liked them.

I've been driving one for a year now

Just a year ago I got my new Mercedes powered Thomas MVP Transit School Bus. I have about 15,500 miles on it, drive about 55 miles a day and lots of Saturday Field Trips. Only one problem with it. It runs so well other drivers are inclined to use it for field trips if I have the time open. But it really does perform like a big Benz. Power is certainly right there, or at least as fast as the electronic throttle controls will allow it to be there. The vehicle has an empty weight of just under 24,000. Now add to that 55 and maybe a few more well fed Hoosier High School Kids, and that will suck some of the wind from her sails. But even with a full load, with that Allison transmission I believe that a 240 D would be pressed very hard to out run it too 60mph. Mine went back to the dealer this summer and after that it was not as powerful as it was and it is now limited to about 64 mph. But that is OK, since the speed limit for those big "yellow" ones is 55 mph max. Yes, on the Interstate we tend to run on cruise control at just under 60, and I think it would take a pretty mean Patrolman to pull us over and ticket the driver, but it is very possible.

Note that the bus is located in Louisiana. I remember seeing pictures of a lot full of those in New Orleans with water up around the hood...

I know, don't you wish you could have a picture of what the bus looked like in the flood condition. Maybe it was one on the fring where it was only up to say the bottom of the axle for 2 days, or maybe it was the one to the top of the hood for 3 weeks. Also makes me wonder how much this person got it for?

Just wondering... hows the mileage on the new MB truck engines?? From what the truck drivers say, the new benz engines aren't too hot cause they get crap fuel mileage... I think the consensus is that CAT engines are still the way to go.. However, I must note that the older International engines in the little trucks are pretty sweet too, my dad's International 4900 has the 530 in it and has about 560K original mi, which is still running and not using too much oil, but badly in need of being rebuilt on principle. BTW, he flogs it mercilessly all day long pulling a livestock trailer around the country, and has done so since he got the truck a few years ago w. 60K on the clock.
