Euro 300TD 5speed

http://www.mercedesw123.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1958

a buddy of mine in France is selling his wagon (break in French; go figure). He contacted me to see if I was interested (I am really not ). But i was just wondering your opinion about one of the combination of options on this car and its desirability in the USA.

The car is quite rough and has 600000km (400kmiles). But it is a euro turbo wagon with 5speed mannie tranny, auto AC (negative point in my opinion), and ABS!!!

Since the only manual w123 imported here in the US was
the 240D and some gassers it is very sought after, especially
the 5sp., many here were 4sp in the US.
I'm not mentioning the gray market cars because they
wheren't officially imported by MB.
So if you can get it for a cheap price and reasonable shipping
I'd say, Go for it!

I wish I had the money to do it.
I would buy it in a heart beat.

Louis.

He says the auto AC doesn't work anyway .

I'd try and get the tranny+accessories only. That way you avoid any issues with importing vis-à-vis EPA and NHTSA (though comes in outside the 25 year limit).

If he's willing to send over the tranny, flywheel, and driveshaft I'm super interested! That said I might be back in France later this year for 1 year(and will go to Val d'Isère to snowboard in March in any case), and will try and scope out a manual for my TD.

The same tranny is made by MB partner Force motors and costs around $1000 brand new, only problem is the prohibitve shipping cost.

Looks like a piece of crap - why not just buy a wagon state-side and put a 5speed in it? It'd be cheaper and it'd be in better condition than that.

Is the 5-speed stock with the turbodiesel in his car or is it a conversion?

That is a stock transmission not a conversion.

I mean, if that manual tranny came stock with that turbodiesel it's a whole new point to my case. Up to now I thought the 2001 C30CDI AMG was the first MB passenger car with a manual transmission on a turbodiesel.
