300d turbo will not start
My 1987 300d turbo will not start. The engine turns over and wants to start, but does not. I changed the primary and secondary fuel filters and fule is being pump to the motor.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is? |

Did the fail to start condition exist before you changed the filters ?

Have you checked out the glow plugs?

If you just changed the filters, did you fill the big filter with fuel before installing? It takes a lot of cranking to fill the big filter. Then you have to bleed the delivery side of the injection system.
The FSM says to crank for a minute at a time with the pedal to floor, resting for a few mintues between cranks to cool the starter. Keep the pedal to the floor and the starter engaged when it catches until the engine runs on its own. I like to be kinder to my battery and starter so I disconnect the glow plug relay, crack all the injector lines and crank for 15 seconds at a time. When fuel drips from an injector line I tighten it and continue until I've tightened all the lines. Reconnect the glow plug relay and it should start easily.
