Diesel Fuel, Cetane and ULSD
I filled my tank up with fuel from another gas station rather than my ULSD Esso station. and I noticed a remarkable power increase! is it just me?
I mixed that tank with a 2:82 mix of Metyl Hydrate:#1 Diesel fuel, because up here, even our winter fuel gells. could the Methyl Hydrate boost the cetane rating of Diesel fuel? should I be using Metyl? I had it on hand and it saved my arse last week...

Methyl Hydrate
Different stations use different additive packages. There probably is a difference.
Methyl Hydrate also has a lower flash point of 11c vs 52c for diesel, that may be helping the combustion. |

So then a half gallon every tank probably would do more good than harm?

I'd worry about lubrication. #1 is already pretty lean on diesel and the alcohol will take it even further. I think you would be fine if you add some Power Service or other lubricity additive.

but for 82 litres of Diesel, 2 are of Methanol..would that really lower my lubricity that much?

Ah, litres. You should be fine at that low a ratio.

Methanol, in a diesel? Is this okay? I understand cetane rating up to 50, helps in combustion under compression. I use a shot of Power Service {six ounces per 20 gallons} and 3 ounces of acetone, someone help with conversions. No, I'm not a math major. My normal fillup is Exxon USDL 45 cetane, that's what it says at the pump anyway. So far, so good.... It's been a mild winter, here in the mid-Atlantic, US.

That's quite alot, even for one full tank. I'd cut that back to 1.5-2oz. More is not better with acetone. I actually lost MPG with 2.5oz and got it back when I went to 1.5oz.

Acetone?!?! when acetone burns it leaves a residue!
I'd cut with nothing more than kero or RUG. and now Methanol! I havn't timed it yet, but I'll bet my 0-60 times have decreased slightly due to the methanol.

Acetone, in theory, cuts the surface tension of the diesel allowing it to better atomize when injected. Very little is needed for it to work. ~1.5oz (0.044 Liters) to every 10 gallons (38 Liters).
