W123 Instrument Cluster mystery, can you identify this spring?
After taking my cluster apart, this spring was magnetically attached to back of my tach, right under the face. Anyone have any clue where it could go? I have looked all around and I can't see where it could have gone. I think my gauges all work (at least when I took it apart), except I suspect the speedo is a little slow.
Thanks for taking a look...

How about on the back of the dimmer switch/trip meter button?

It's the return spring for the odometer reset lever. If you look behind the face of the speedometer, there is a lever that sticks out near the 0 mph peg. There is supposed to be a spring at the other end of this lever. I think it just pops into place.

After doing my cluster rebuild, I went to put the spring back, and it's defintely as you guys said it was. Very obvious from the description where it goes.
Thanks!

For future reference, if anyone loses that little spring (they can fly a long way sometimes) you can make a replacement from one of those small springs that are used in many retractable ball point pens.
