Winter diesel blending
I looked through the forum for info on mixing diesel for colder weather. I was inundated with info and had a hard time sorting through it. SO....here's what I'd like to know.....
For my climate 10-30F in the winter, what should I mix in my diesel for better starting and/or performance? I have a 300SD 1982. I'm just looking for a general consensus on what is safe, has been generally regarded as practical and generally works.... I'm new to the diesel thing so I'm on a learning curve. From what I gather, people either mix kerosene or regular unleaded gasoline (RUG). What proportions are safe? Should I run some sort of cleaner in the system first? Sorry if this has been beaten to death, but I haven't found any clear answers. |

Fuel from the station pumps is already winterized.
If it makes you feel better, put some PowerService (white bottle) additive into the tank. |

What's the advantage, then, of adding gas, kerosene, ATF etc...?

None unless you continually operate in subzero temperatures.
Adding ATF, oil, biodiesel, etc is all in the mind. No advantage to it except to make you, the driver, feel better. |
