300 SDL and overdrive?

Is it possible to put an overdrive transmission in a 1987 300 SDL? I just put a new (used) engine in it and my father-in-law has loves the car and wants it. He asked me, like I would know, if we could put overdrive tranny in it. Any thoughts or ideas? Also how do I know if the turbo is working? I did not have any problems with anything in the car until wifey ran it hot and you guys know the the rest. Thanks for any help.

Where would you get such an overdrive tranny to fit the OM603?

And, the engine really does benefit from the current speeds that it runs with the 2.88 gears. You might get some fuel economy benefits from the overdrive but, the benefits could never pay for the cost of the tranny and the installation.

Take it for a 0-60 time. If the turbo works, the time will be 11-12 seconds. If the turbo does not work, the time will be 18+ seconds.

You can inve$tigate a 5-$peed tran$mi$$ion from a 97-99 E300. Don't forget the electronic$ and $pecial fluid that go with it.

Mine moves right along at 3k at 70mph, smooth as silk. I wouldn't want another gear then it would have to downshift all the time.

Texas is pretty damned flat. Plus the 2.47:1 is perfect for in town driving in 3rd.
