Hi all :

My 1991 300D 2.5 Turbo wont rev-up. I can start the car with no prob, but if I step on the gas petal, it wont rev-up at all. The gas petal gives a little gap at first, but if you step on it further it feels ok. I did check and it is not a snapped cable. I also tried to open the hood and accelerate the engine from under the hood, but it always stays in idle.

I had a problem with smoke coming out of the exhaust when the car was cold, but when it warmed up it was ok. they told me that its the fuel pump timing and it costs a fortune to fix, and now am afraid that the fuel pump is totally gone. I had to get the car towed to my house until I figure what to do.

It has about 125,000 miles.. Any ideas please ?

Thanks a bunch

Andreas

Check all of the linkage very carefully to make sure that is is all attatched. Have someone sit in the car and hit the gas pedal, you should see the linkage move at several places. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks a lot for the answer. I have already done so, and everything seems to be moving ok from underneath the hood. There are indeed several pieces that are moving when the gas petal is pressed.

Is there anything else that you think I should be checking ?

Thanks
andreas

Thanks for the help. found the problem..

Thanks for the response.
You were right of course. I did pay a closer look in the car ( I didn't get the chance to take a really good look into the car until yesterday). I saw that there was one bracket that got disconnected from the throttle. You couldn't see it easily, you had to really look deep. Plus I needed the car to be cold, so I could get my hand in.

One of the brackets that connects to the throttle using a ball joint (no idea if there is a proper name for that) fell off. I snapped it back in place, but when I drove the car around to check, it came off again. I just need to replace that connector.

Thanks a lot for all the help !

The ball & socket joints should be well lubricated with a Mercedes approved grease. If it is popping off I would say it is either worn or the linkage is not adjusted properly. In either case I am glad you were able to isolate the problem.
Let me know how it goes.
