Does the Boogie man work on Sundays?

Hey-
Anyone that ever go oil drum diving in the back of a restaurant for WVO on a weekend see the dreaded oil renderer working the same area? Or have you ever been caught?
Three of my new WVO friends lost there sources for different reasons but I wonder if the safest time to collect, not get spotted by the boogie man, is on the weekends. I was thinking of doing a big collection one Sunday a month to my 3 rest sources. That way it doesn't take over my life!

I didn't realize that collecting waste oil was a subversive act, I figured you could go to a restaurant, become friends with the owner/manager and get them to give you their WVO.

I used to leave drums. Plus I had a contract with the hauler that the resteraunt would fill his to the brim then fill mine. The resteraunts were cool and just dumped the solids and wash water and some crappy oil in the haulers drum and I got just sweet sweet WVO.

Don't go dumpster diving .. If you take from the haulers drum/ dumpster your stealing his merchandise. Invest in some 55 gallon drums with lids and mark them as yours. I had one hauler dip into my drum by accident. I called and they said they would be more careful next time and they actually let me take from their dumpster to make it even.

I was getting 100 gallons every 2 weeks and would use it in my car(Bio) and my friends truck.

Well I'm getting more info on how things go in California. I went to a Biodiesel Algae lecture about 3 weeks ago and the grad student giving the lecture is from Univ. of Colorado, Boulder. He runs his car on WVO and collects his own oil. He said in CO. it's more like the wild wild west, just ask the rest. owner, then no one gets in trouble.
In CA. you need a license to collect and carry insurance in case of oil spill on frwys and streets. This makes sense if transporting on an open bed truck. Each state is a little different but I collect small amts 20 gal/week into cubies then into the trunk of my sedan. I have the blessing of all 3 owners. Last night, the owner of the Chinese rest. invited me to sit down and eat with him and his employees! I have it good for sure! Believe me, I'm grateful.

I just want to know if anyone sees them working on the weekends.

I have a friend who used to have a restaurant, since sold. He used to let me take what I wanted leaving the rest for the collector. The collector didn't seem to care that I was skimming. Oddly enough there was a phantom skimmer. My friend would call to say the drums were full and overnight they'd be down to half. Happened twice. Those weren't collection days and the collector empties the drums. Was it one of you?

It makes sense regardless of what you're transporting it in. Accidents don't just happen to trucks.

Nope, wasn't me. I limit to driving a 5mile radius. For right now, there is plenty to be had. The collector shouldn't mind. 5 years from now, might be a whole different ball game.

True but an open bed truck is more likely to spill a much larger volume (2 55 gal drums) of slippery oil to the road! Get it?

My friend had to get a license and the million dollar insur. to collect 55 gal a week from a small chain of rest. in SF.

frankie, if you have time to go to san bruno ill share my source with you. Ive havent had the time to collect anyway so go right ahead.
The restaraunt is called Melaka.

751 San Bruno Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066

Its a chinese, japanses, korean buffet. Good food too! they always let me take their oil becaue they always tell me that the recyclers always come late or sometimes dont come at all for weeks and they are just overfilled with oil. They have a 55gal drum and a 200gal tote always full of oil. But they told me on average mondays are collection days when the oil recyclers come. So tuesday-friday is your best bet to get oil.

good luck!

Whaaaat! Ruben you just made a public anouncement with the address?
Don't think that owner will have anymore problems with overfilling!
It was great to meet you Saturday! Fun huh? Did you go to the Delta drive last year?

I'll take you up on that offer to collect and share and I want to offer free heated filtering, dewatering and deliver it back to you since you don't have time to collect. Free. Dude, we help each other out. I know that you disconnected your system but now you can get it working again.
What do you think? PM me.

California hippies. Now ya gotta have an insurance policy to haul your WVO ...
lol

I am in south Florida & one late night I ran into the ultimate oil truck;

This was outiside an Albertson's supermarket. ( It is a real big one.)

ANd there's this real big truck, with a real thick like 4" d hose coming out the back;
and it's hooked up "fire hydrant style" to an inlet on the side of the building outside the deli counter.

So I look into the back of the truck and it has all these connections labeled with
all different types of fresh unused cooking oils- Corn - Soy - Peanut- etc etc ..etc..

I figure they must have pumped at least 500 gallons into this supermarket.

I was looking for the driver and he was nowhere to be found. The truck was just running & pumping oil into the store.

I was gonna ask him if he would just pump me a quick 21.4 gallons of Soy into my
'ol 300D. ( I also thought about stealing the truck, but it was too big to fit in the garage,....)

Anyone ever see one of these?

You need to ask permission before taking something that's not yours.

If the police see you "dumpster diving" for grease, you will probably be arrested for trespassing/theft.

Even my parents taught me that. Isn't that one of the ten Commandments or somethin'?
I'm pretty lucky, one of my sources even puts the old oil in cubies for me! Sweeeet!

(Note to Frankie: I looked briefly at the Diesel gtg at Stinson Beach Sat., at your 300TD and I wouln't think it needs a repaint, especially given the price that can cost, and it is best to keep the original as long as possible, look into a good buffing and detailing first by a first rate body shop, it is a clean class ride)

California can get a bit crazy. Once I was driving on Hwy 5 up near Lake Shasta in the Benz and a flatbed truck ahead of me began shedding 55 gallon (plastic) drums all over the freeway in front of me, and I had to dodge them all, luckily I got through them without hitting any of 'em

Another thing I'll never forget was a dumpster diving young businesswoman in a suit and heels who was going after remainered paperback books on 9th Street in San Francisco that had been put into a big dumpster.. You had to be there, it looked hilarious, to her see the legs and heels sticking out of the container as she was getting the books.

In some SF neighborhood too, when people put out their recyclables, the night before pickup, vans and old pickups come around with people collecting the goodies late in the evening to grab the best recyclable goodies before the Sunset Scavenger Co. trucks come by the next morning.

Uhhh, yeah I get it. Did YOU get that I was talking about a car accident? 110 gallons of vegi oil could make a pretty good mess. As long as you're aware of that when hauling the stuff around then all is well.
