Is the injection pump on my 300DT a non turbo unit?

Shortly after purchasing my first MBZ, I discovered, with the aid of members of this forum, that I have an ALD and not an ALDA on my IP. They also suggested that I may have a non-turbo IP. Can anyone tell me how I can determine if the IP is non-turbo or turbo?

Using a mirror and magnifying glass, I read some numbers on the BOSCH plate attached to the side of the IP. The number appears to be RW375/2200WW27. I am not positive that I correctly read the number. Especially the last two digits (27) The numbers are small and inverted using the mirror.

Also, Would not having the correct IP cause any damages to the engine or any other components?

Thanks in advance.

The non-turbo IP will not have a hard line coming in to it from the manifold (through the over-boost valve). Check for a plastic hard line attached with a banjo fitting to the firewall side of the intake manifold, and follow the line across the firewall, through the valve and to the IP.

If the line doesn't have a place to connect, you may not have a turbo IP. But maybe it's just disconnected. And if you don't have turbo IP, it won't hurt anything but you will be VERY SLOW.

I would think the non turbo IP would cause a lean condition... no? I figure once the motor got going, the turbo would be feeding in more air than the fuel to burn...

Clarification

Thanks for the responses.

Sorry for not being clear on my original post. The ALDA line is in place. There is no place to attach it at the IP. That is, there is not an ALDA unit on the IP. An ADA (non turbo unit) sits atop the IP. I am wondering and hoping that the PO changed the the ALDA to an ADA and not the complete IP unit. So I am trying to find out how to determine if the rest of the IP is non-turbo. I suspect it is, but would like to know for sure. A used ALDA is a lot cheaper than the complete unit.

I will try to take a picture later this week and post. Not sure how clear the picture will be with it in the car.

I am sure it is runing lean and not getting all the fuel it could. It is VERY slow (I think very slow is an understatement) I think the 6 year old kid across the street is faster off the line on his trike.

Thanks

Diesel run lean ALL the time. It's a normal operating conditon. So running less fuel just gets you less power.

Ok. It sounds like you are on the right track. I hope you can just install an ALDA -- having to replace the whole pump sounds like a real drag.

Correction of Bosch number on IP

I reread the number on the Bosch number on the IP. Because the number is so hard to read I am still not sure if I read it correctly. Anyway the new reading is RW 375/2200 WW 27.

Thanks in advance for any advice and comments.
