my '87 300D cost $700, but I had to change the exhaust, thermostat and exhaust extension... bad tires too. but I wouldn't pay over $1000.

Yeah let him try to sell that car, its going to sit for months. The only market for a car like this is with people like us, or maybe Ebay.

Original owner? Our Ebay friend in FL will probably buy it knowing that it has an original title so the mileage is un-reported, replace the odometer, re-spray it badly, and take a lot of marina photos to sell it LOL.

I didn't realize that Mercedes was already replacing TrapOxydizers in '87. ?????

Hmm now there is a business! Takes about 15 minutes to roll that odo back 250k miles or so, and oh look at the resale increase.

The trap oxidizer was removed by a independent mercedes shop in 87. The owner removed it because he thought is was unesessary as they didn't use them in Germany. That is what he told me. He is a Mercedes enthusiast and and anal renteive about his cars. Some people think the price is steep, however, in the Pacific Northwest is seems to be a fair price. There is a lot of expensive junk due to the biodiesel craze. Miles are still a concern for me though. I don't need to make a decision immediatley though because he doesn't really need to sell it. Thanks for all the input.

Is the pipe that goes in place of the trap an MB part or was it fabricated? Did MB have replacement pipes available before the recall?

You'd have to have a close friend in service to do that and keep the warranty. Is it documented?
