Need mainland salvage yard suggestions

After picking up a 1984 300CD recently and thinking I really didn't have much to do on the body & mechanicals (hah! naive fool!), I just discovered that the rear drain trough on the sunroof is completely rusted through, which means a car full of water after a heavy rain. Unless I meet a friendly and generous welding/metalworking wizard sometime in the near future, I'm going to have to replace the sunroof.

MB quotes $1029.00 (!!!) for an OE replacement, so... I need to find something used.

But the problem is I live on Oahu and the salvage yard selection here is very limited, so I need some pointers to some large & professional mainland salvage yards (i.e. the kind with databases who will check for parts by phone and then pull and ship them) to see if I can track down a 300CD sunroof in good condition. Any suggestions?

I wonder if you could run a new line yourself, just inside the existing drain? It'd have to be something thin-walled and flexible.

Other than that, sounds like quite a task to replace those drain lines the correct way.

Probably just be better off sealing the sunroof shut with a silicone of some type.

justinperkins: it's not the drain itself, it's the lip/trough that feeds water into the drain.

whunter: many thanks--i will send you the VIN shortly. congrats on the new affiliation.

Ahh yes. Sorry. :o

Until you get it fixed I hope it's sealed up anyway though.

heres another nationwide site:

I dont know if it applies, but I have read of people using JB weld to fix rusted sunroof drains.
