Question '82 300td wagon Engine won't quit with key off

Just performed my 4th oil change since becoming a diesel owner. Nothing out of the ordinary or different than the other three times. When i was finished, i fired it up, sounded fine and the oil presure shot right up. When i wanted to shut it down the car had other ideas. Kept right on running. So i used the handy STOP lever under the hood and it cut out immediately. Tried again with the same results. Upon further inspection i noticed the injector furthest forward and the one closest to the firewall were wet with diesel where they meet the head.
My mechanic stressed the importance of keeping up with the oil changes to avoid (among other things) something he called "runaway diesel", where the engine gets into some kind of self devouring mode running off of its own oil.
Anyone have any idea of what's going on?

You accidently disconnected a vacuum line while doing the oil change. Check all the vacuum lines in the vicinity of the oil filter housing and I am certain you will find a broken or disconnected one.

The wet injector is unrelated. You probably knocked off a vacuum line in the area of the oil filter. Take a close look at the vacuum lines.

Yup check your vac lines in the engine bay. You probably pulled one loose.

Me Thinks the Same

Probably disconnected the vacuum line that overlies the filter housing.

How long was it running before you tried to shut it off. If I start my daily then shut it down within about 10 seconds, it won't shut off either. The vacuum pump needs more time

thanks a bunch

you all are right on with the vacuum explanation. the car listened to the ignition after i found the loose lines and re attatched. next time i'll pay more attention.
the injectors are still wet. i can actually see tiny bubbles working their way out of the forward injector directly against the head. any suggestions on this?
thanks again. you all rock, this forum rocks and the techonlogy to make it happen rocks.

check closely where the bubbles are coming from. the head has a prechamber seal holding it in, then the injector screws into that. if the bubbles are comming from the area between the head and the PC Ring, it's a pain. if it's coming around the body of the injector where it screws into the ring, it's no biggie. just pull the injector, and put in a new heat shield, then torque the injector back down.
if it is the PC ring, you gotta pull the injector, replace the shield, AND pull the PC ring, pull the PC, put in new pc seal, and re assemble... to do this, you need the pc removal tool, and a slide hammer... $$$. if you do it, I may split the cost with you, cause I gotta do it to my 82 SD...

Hate to state the obvious, but have you tried tightening the injector to see if it will stop?

um, no... Duh! perhaps that WILL stop the bubbles... I thought if the pc ring was leaking, I needed to pull the ring and install a new pc seal... not so? I will pull the ip lines and torque them down and see how it goes... Good Suggestion!
