300SD 487,000 miles

New member, but have been on the site for a while . Thanks to all the tips and tricks I've picked up on this site my latest project is going on the road tomorrow. I picked up a 85 300SD a few months back as a project. I've worked on alot of MB's over the years but never owned one. The car has over 450,000 miles has the 250,000 km and 500,000 km badges on the grill. Speedo says 487,000. I've done a bit of work to her over the last couple of months valves, filters, oil lines, etc.. She seems to run very well. Can't wait to get her on the road.

Yep, it'll be exciting. Hope all goes well.

On the first of February I'll be getting my CD back on the road for the first time since November, can't wait to find out how she does after all my work.

At 487,000, you probably have the fastest speedometer made!

Welcome and congratulation.

Time to send off for the 750,000km badge (466k miles).

got it on e-bay

I bought it on E-bay for $280. The owner said it wasn't used for about a year or so. When I got her home I put a battery in her and tapped the key and it started. I was shocked. The fuel is still at least 2 years old. Any recomendations on additives? I was thinking about Diesel Purge. Don't now much about it. Except what I've read on this site.

Thanks for the download I'm going to send it in. Any truth to the rumor that MB gives you a new one if you reach 1 million miles?

I bet if you make it to 2 million they might consider giving you a C230

He'd still have to drive roughly 60k a year for the next 30 years to reach that. Could have probably bought a number of C230's for the parts/labor it'd take to get that far.

Same here, especially over a C230... Though if it was something with AMG on the back....I'd probably be swayed away......

I'm betting that not a single one of either of those models that ever rolled off the line has seen even half-a million miles. (or would ever make it that far) Craigslist is littered with 600's that are all in need of major engine work and most of them are below 100k!

I agree, there comes a point of diminshed returns where it's just crazy to keep spending money on the car.

It's part of the plan to keep most people in perpetual car payments. My uncle just traded his 2004 Cadillac Deville on a new one, because the a/c quit and he didn't want to spend $1000 on a new compressor. Nothing like paying retail and getting wholesale for your trade. If you are upside down on the trade, they just add the difference to your new loan. What's this world comong to?

You know it's messed up when the shop at home cable channel sells lobester in "three easy monthly paymets"......

So, went to DMV this morning and the 300SD is all leagal. Ran great, put about 50 miles on it. I think the rotors have some high spots and the tires may have some flat spots from sitting soooo long.

When I adjusted the valves I removed the bowden cable and did not readjust it. Can anyone advise the proper procedure for adjustment?

Thanks
Dave
