How abruptly does it go from running Ok to snuffing it?

If it's abrupt, some temp-sensitive component could be hitting its threshold and causing the snuff.

The change is very gradual. You can hear the engine getting "weaker" for a long period of time before it finally just putter-putter-putts out. The problem definately gets gradually worse as the engine heats up.
