So, see if anyone can help out. Since i have had the car, the doors have not locked with the key at all. to lock the doors i could just push down them down and then the key would unlock them no problem. I usually just keep them unlocked anyway so...
But this started happening all of a sudden. I have the back doors locked and started to lock the passenger door. Now the drivers door wont lock....i cant even force the knob down. On top of that...if i unlock the passenger front door.....it will relock itself ever so slowly. cant say if the back doors are following suit.
Any ideas?

The system is fixing itself. It is designed so that the driver's door can only be locked with the key. You shouldn't be able to push down the driver's door lock with the door open.

ah i didnt know that. i was told that it should override the vacuum for saftey reasons, and allow you to lock and unlock.
explain what you mean that its fixing itself please. i get awesome images of my car become "christine".

If you could previously lock the driver's door and then close it, something was wrong with it.
I'm also thinking that the passenger door is being controlled by the vacuum switch from the driver's door, which is why it's trying to lock once opened.

ah ok. thanx. i thought that the other doors would copy what the drivers door was doing though. so, if my drivers door is stuck in the unlock position, like it is, then the other doors would remain unlocked unless i pushed the knob down.

Are you trying to lock the driver's door with the door shut or open? You'll need to remove the panel from the driver's door and see what is happening with the mechanism/vacuum controls.

will be doing that this weekend. it will not lock with the key or by pushing down on the knob, with the door closed or open. nothing is working. i am planning on tearing into it. maybe i can get it to actually lock with the key too someday.

Wow, Fixing itself. cool. If I let my car sit long enough, it will restore itself to new again...
Just kidding, It is infact doing what it's supposed to do. Mine are very similar. My passenger door can be locked from inside the car, and the drivers door can only be locked from the inside, if the door is closed. If I get out of the car, I lock the passenger door, and have to lock the drivers door from the outside. I have beaten the system before, by locking the drivers door from the inside, and exiting the car through the locked passenger door. I thinK I was a little more athletic at the time though....lol. "Chrisine" thanks for the images of my 300Cd's fixing themselves up. No need for a parts, and tech advise forums if that were the case. I don't think I could stand the 1979 music all the time though. It was bad back then, and is even worse to hear now....lol

Is this a new problem with a car youv'e had for a while? Or a problem with a car you just got?

I wonder if a PO had hooked the master switch in the driver's door backwards? Is that not possible?

eh. there was SOME good 79 music.
i wish my door was actually able to lock with the key, because i would just live with it. but alas...the drivers door will not lock at all.
