Aux Waterpump Amp Draw

Guys, I tested the amp draw on my Aux WP since Jeremy5848 asked me if I had tested it.

Mine varied between .3 and .5 amps. Initial starting draw at engine operating temp was .7

I hope this helps!

Pump!

My pump draws 0.9 Amps. I haven't checked the starting surge but it's probably 1.2 to 1.5 Amps. This explains why rrgrassi can use a 1 Amp fuse but I have to go to 2 Amps. It suggests that my pump is getting "old" and may need cleaning (if possible) or replacement.

Check my posts on overhauling the Aux Pump. Its refurbishable. I got pics, too. Also, I might have one to spare. Let me know.

I installed a relay triggered by the ACC to drive the aux pump. IIRC, there was a quenching diode installed to keep the ACC protected from voltage spikes created by driving the relay. A relay draws about 0.1amp so theres no way the ACC will ever be damaged. I posted on this quite a while back. RT

Excellent information fellas. I was just getting ready to put in a fuse and was wondering how big it should be. Now I know.

I used a one-amp fuse in my holder that I installed and it seems to be working fine so far...and my pump is in questionable condition....though I haven't heard it recently....and I've had less heat....hmmmm I should check my fuse!
