Air leakage at cyl head/Prechamber?- 91 OM603

I'm working on a friends 91 350 SDL. She just bought the car, and am doing some routine maintence on it.

I notice the intake was very clogged, so I cleaned it, as well as the cylinder head intake area. I was careful to make sure the valves were closed, and that I blew the debris out and none got into anything, as far as I can tell

I also at the same time installed a new fuel filter (filled it with Diesel purge)
and removed injectors 4,5, and 6 to inspect. I cleaned them areas up, and after everything was put back together, it was a bit hard to start (I expected that) but what I didn't expect was a definite ar leakage from Injector # 1.

you can actually feel a breeze coming from a small half circle area that each of the injector recesses have, that is between the Steel precombustion chamber, and the aluminum head. I took the injector out, and this injector had alot of carbon around the injector, as well as the heat sheild, but the pintle looked the same as the rest of them.

I'm pretty new to MB diesels, my area of expertise is VW TDi engines, but I am a pretty good mechanic.. this however has me stumped...

any help?

thanks!

percy.

How does one go about repairing this?

Did you try a new seal and torquing the injector to 70Nm?

If you take the prechamper out, you'll see that there is a washer-seal inside the head. my bet is $5 that it's broken. All you ahve to do is replace it. On mine it was a $3 fix. although doing all 6 cylinders wouldn't be a bad idea.

After doing a little research, that too is what i came up with...

Does anyone know what I can use other than the factory tool to remove the prechamber? I did a search, but only came up with the earlier style.. I know i have the unscrew the injector housing, (with a special tool) and then use a slide hammer to remove the prechamber (another special too)...

Mine has the splines, not the tabs like the older diesels.

Do a search on Shimano crank extractor.

Well, I ended up taking it to the dealer yesterday, and the tech said there is a good possibility that the pre chamber is warped... does this happen?

I got an estimate of $475 to fix, with a possibility that it could be the cyl head... I forget how expensive these things are, when things break.

I like the MB's but love my Passat TDi..

seeing as I don't actually own the car, I was working on it for a friend, I don't want to buy the tools, and couldn't find the shimano crank extractor that was mentioned..

I'll find out tommorow what the verdict is.. she gave the go ahead to fix.
