Mobil 1 Turbodiesel in a Gas MB V8 OK??

Does anyone know if the Mobil 1 turbodiesel oil 5w40 is OK for a MB V8...560? I think it should be fine. It's not JUST for diesels...is it?

As long as it has the Sx rating for gas engines, it's fine.

Why not use one of the regular M1 oils?

I'm betting that service life in a gasser would be awesome!
Think about it: Better shear stability, better detergent, better particulate handling and suspension.

The Mobil website has a thingy where you select your car and it tells you the good better bestest oil for your car. If they list it there, you can bet it is OK.

Isn't mobil 1 synth the standard oil they put in all new MBs?

Oil made for diesels can have a lot of phosphorus in it. Not good for catalytic converters. As long as you aren't burning oil you will probably be all right, but it may not be the best oil for a gasser.

You should be fine as long as your not burning oil. The friction modifiers in "C" rated oil for diesels can harm your catalytic convertor if you need rings and you use it all the time.

Reading posts over in the gasser section of the forum, alot of the guys are putting dino 15w40 in the gassers because of the detergents in the oil.

In my mind i dont see how that is ok, and thats why i have mobil 1 5w30 in the 420. They claim that the 15w40 is what MB recommends for their gassers

in my gasser RX-7 i use 20W-50 in the summer and 10W-30 in the winter. it was 20W-50 all the time till i found out that the heavier oil killed my batteries during the cold cranking and the load on it.

Dino 15w-40 may meet the specs for their cars, as MB has approved a few 15W-40 oils for diesel and gasser use. However, your Mobil 1 5W-30 doesn't meet MB standards.
From this site http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

some oils which are not recommended:
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 0W-30 SL/SJ/CF A1/B1/A5 9.7 doesn't meet 229.1 nor ACEA A2 or A3
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 SL/SJ/CF A1/B1/A5 9.8 doesn't meet 229.1 nor ACEA A2 or A3
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 10W-30 SL/SJ/CF A1/B1/A5 10.1 doesn't meet 229.1 nor ACEA A2 or A3
These 3 oils do not meet MB spec of > 3.5 cP for high temperature high shear strength.

I wouldn't run 5w30 in an M119. Mobil 1 0w40, or the factory fill which was 15w40 something or other. Don't run to heavy of an oil either or you will blow off the caps on the oil bridge's.

Mobil 1 5/10W30 doesn't meet any MB specs and should not be used in any Mercedes.

From http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Car_Care/AskMobil/Mobil_1_vs_Mobil_Delvac_1_for_a_Gasoline_Engine.aspx

Question:
Mobil 1 vs. Mobil Delvac 1® for a Gasoline Engine
I have read on the Internet that Mobil Delvac 1 oils may provide better performance in high-performance passenger-car engines than regular Mobil 1, since they meet CF-4 specs. What about using Delvac in gasoline engines, especially high-performance engines?
-- "Tribological", Richmond, VA

Answer:
Mobil 1 formulas will deliver everything you need for your gasoline engine. In fact, during development, tests are run in both gasoline and diesel engines to demonstrate the superior performance of Mobil 1. Mobil Delvac 1, which is designed for heavy-duty diesels, meets most diesel engine oil specifications, and also meets API SL certification. And because Delvac 1 operates in a different environment – diesel engines run longer, generate soot and run hotter, it contains different types and amounts of additives than Mobil 1. Even so, Delvac 1 still meets API SL certification for gasoline engines, and because of its high performance, we would expect it to do a good job of protecting your gasoline engine. If you use your gasoline vehicle in "heavy-duty" service, Delvac 1 will provide many benefits compared to conventional oils. When compared to Mobil 1 performance, those benefits may not be as obvious, and in fact, Mobil 1 would be expected to outperform Delvac 1 in many gasoline applications.

Hmm i thought for sure the bottle of 5w30 i bought said it was used in AMG mercedes. Im going downstairs to see if i still have the container. But i think a UOA will tell me what the ill effects the oil has had in the engine. Ill plan on having one done by the next oil change.

And no way will i run 15w40 in the M119, i think MB is nuts for putting that oil in the gasser. But thats just me. Some of the guys on the gasser section of the forum reported oil leaks with delo 400 15w40 because of its detergents.

So far the car doesnt drip a bit of oil and i dont want it dripping oil on the driveway as ive washed off all the diesel oil from the leaky SD that i had.
