Question Help needed on 1985 300sd

I am trying to instal a shell and tube heat exchanger to use the hot water from the radiator to heat up my fuel. I hooked the incoming water from the line coming from the thermostat, but I am not getting any flow even after the car heats up. Could any one please help with a diagram or pictures of their installation? I am a confused old country boy that needs some help with this. Comments and suggestions more than welcome. Thanks Jack

if the you are hooked on the line from radiator to tstat, it will not flow unless the stat is opened. meaning fully warmed up.

so does that fit with your scenario? if the car is idling it prob will not open in cool weather.

You should hook the inlet of the heat exchanger to the heater hose that comes off the back of the head and the return to the heater hose that runs along the passenger side of the engine to the thermostat.
