1980 300SD won't turn off.

Can anyone point me to a troubleshooting guide to fixing engine shutdown? I have recently had some repairs done in area of trunk trying to fix some leaks plus oil change and transmission filter etc. The engine now won't shut off and it seems to have started after the oil change. The doors won't lock now but the brakes still have power. Any help would be much appreciated.

Check out Dieselgiant's vacuum troubleshooting page for starters.

There's a disconnected or broken vacuum line in the vicinity of your oil filter housing. Reconnect. Voila!

Not that simple unfortunately as all looks good there. I notice that a long crimped ended pipe in the trunk, which may be the vacuum reservoir is coming out of a metal box beside the trunk hinge behind the power antenna. It is very loose. I'll try to just block off the supply line from the main hose from the pump. I'm not sure if this will work as the reservoir may be required for the vacuum engine shutoff to work.

I think the crimped line you are discussing is from the sunroof motor. Not sure what it does, but it isn't vacuum related. Your vac reservoir tank is up under the rear shelf, in between right speaker and medical kit box. [in trunk of course]
What happened to you is somebody either disconnected something near your oil filter housing, as mentioned above. Very common, and you need to pull apart and connect every rubber elbow and line there. They also could have knocked loose the vac line in trunk to either trunk lock or fuel door or vac reservoir. You don't need to mess with door lock valve in driver door, as nobody was in there.
Also make sure that a nipple wasn't broken off the vac line from pump to brake booster. I don't know if your car has 1 T off of it or 2. Observation is your best asset at this point.....
Don't make this too hard, it is a man-made condition.....

It is also possible the person doing the oil service could have knocked it off, saw it flopping around and went "oh crud" is his head, and in a mild fret had looked for the nearest port he could see and stuck it back on in the wrong place, not having a clue what it was. (You don't mention where the service was done) The shutoff is the metal diaphragm on the rear of the IP, the hose should not go to the metal one on top of the IP if you have one on yours. The brown shutoff hoses should go from the shutoff into the firewall where it goes to the ign switch, then should come back thru the firewall to the sourcing hose connections. The yellow line(s) is the door lock system.

Thanks for all the help. I plugged the line that feeds the door locks and the engine now shuts down. I'm hoping the line to the trunk latch came off. Any way at least my main problem is overwith
