I have 3 W123 saloons.

1983 Euro 300D 160k, engine runs like champ, tranny good but could use a refreshing, stops on a dime, rear end collision damage, current daily driver. interior is not so good had to replace euro clotch seats with mb tex I got from jfman.

1985 Federal 300D turbo 322k, engine ok, tranny blown, body in good-excellent shape. interior has mold but is ok otherwise.

1977/8 Euro 220D 109k, engine going back to PO but tranny in PRIMO condition (reverse lock out WORKS and its super tight in the shifting), body is fairly rusted around drains other wise ok, interior is near showroom condition. black / grey cloth checkered cloth with grey mbtex trim etc. manual everything. One button on center console for rear def. HAHAHA. (and really I think mb was expecting a bit much when they added the factory bumper on this car)

So I need to build 2 working cars out these 3. My current line of thought. 300D NA Euro engine into the 220D and the 300D euro tranny and bumpers etc into the 85 federal and junk my current 300D euro.

Thoughts? God I married a patient woman. I'll take some pics this evening.

I am going to keep the 220d stock just put a new eng in it. The interior is to cool.

Dont forget about the differences between the 83 and 85, although that might not be a problem if your swapping the engine and trans together. Buy stock in the company that makes POR. Your probably going to want to buy a buch of it when you start attacking the rust. You'll definately have a cool ride when your done though.

The engine is stayin in the 85. Just changing transmission and driveline on that one. What differences would I need to worry about?

Just my thoughts......keep driving your daily as is, buy a rusted out 300D with good engine and tranny to fix both of your other cars

The daily driver has some or more rust than the 220D and rear end collision and the interior is mismatched as hell. And yes they are. Damn MB for using the same chassis for 8 years...

Actually they used the same chassis for almost 11 years (1975 through 1986), if you count commercial prototypes, alternative fuel experiments, fleets and taxi sales in the rest of the world. and the OM616 has the distintion to have been around 3 years before and still in production today in India!
