puting a 300sd turbo in a w201 chassis need info...
 

i have a w201 body and a 83or84 don't remember turbo engine, and i want to put the engine in the 190 w201 is thare info on how to do this
and how do u work out the motor mount is it custom or is thare one off some other MB that will work?

It will be a tight fit. The W201 never used that engine or anything like it.

Pretty heavy for that car too, I'd look for a nice 602.

i have my eyes on a free 190E with a dead engine. I don't want the gas, and had the same idea as you. i also think it will fit. if you go ahead with installing the 617 let me know.

The largest factory engine the 201 ever saw was the 2.6 i6 petrol. I had a 124 with that engine and it was quite long, probably as long as the 300D.

But the '83 - '84 sd used a om617 i5 engines. I think you'd be better of with an om602 with a turbo. A little bit more power than the om617 but more refined and more economic.

I have a 201 with the om602 turbo engine and 5sp manual. Quite a good car, a little bit small but I'm short so it's done right for me.

Check out the Finns as well. I think they have done some OM 603 conversions, but for my money, the 617 is way too big and heavy for that car.

The OM602 can make plenty of power, and came as a factory stock installation as well.

i have at my home a 190e with a dead engine and the om617 so i dont have to buy tham. i allso have everythang to put 190d stuff in like the engine and trans i was thinking the om617 will gave me more power i know its big but, have you ever seen some one do this? it looks like it may fit, the the 86 - 190d engine is not turbo can i add a turbo to it to gave me more power?

The 617 will not give as much power as a 60x engine, it will also be much harder to get to fit (custom motor mounts etc)

I think it will fit without modification, I saw a W124 with a 617 in it, so i think it will work fine in a 201, Also the 617 with turbo has as much horsepower as a 602 with turbo, Granted its not as efficient engine, and will be alittle heavier, But it will be fun to drive.

I say if you have both cars right beside each other go for it,

you shouldnt even need a new driveshaft or anything.

I have done a few of these types of swaps before, and its pretty cool to do something different,

It may be hard to resell, and make sure you can get through emissions in your state.

Why? Why going through all the trouble?

Wait for a nice 190D 2.5 Turbo with low miles to come along and you can watch TV or play with whatever or whomever instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

Understand this: Daimler-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, and now DaimlerChrysler has quite a budget and a lot of pretty smart engineers on their payroll; there's a reason why they didn't put such an engine in the 190.

Why go through the trouble of doing anything, why go through the trouble of working on your own cars at all. I think he has both cars.

If your a DIY then do this, if not, then don't

I started my benz adventure, when I purchased a 1983 300 SD and 1985 500 SEL, and everyone on benzworld told me it was imposible to put the engine from one into the other, told me that i should sell both for parts, and then buy a nice SD.

I think that there are to many naysayers.

DO THE SWAP, If difficulties come up then deal with them accordingly, You will get to know your car very well, and you will have a very unique car.

The reason they didnt put that engine into the 190 is because they already had a replacement for the 617 series of engines, Im sure they could have if they wanted to, I have seen 617s in 124's, The 617 is not that much heavier than a 602, Since he doesnt have a 602 and he does have a 617.

Ill even say that it would be easier to swap in a 617 because the wireing is much simpler than the 602 or 603,

For some unknown reason if he waits for a nice 190D 2.5 turbo, he is going to be paying through the nose.

the engine will fit physically no doubt, but all the wiring and such will not match up as it would if using an engine that matches the year.

also the starter is on opposite sides and the tranny is questionable as to matching up.

and the older engine will be illegal.

i would suggest trying to swap the good 617 engine for a parts car with the engine you desire which has been rear ended or burned or has other issues besides mechanical.

doing an oddball swap like that will drive you crazy with details.

i did see one 124 with a 617 in it though so it can be done.

but i wouldn't do it and wouldn't recommend it.
