1984 190d Rear end noise

Hello all well finaly got back to a Benz and found your cool forum My previous Benz was a 300sd with over 400k on her So after a long list of cars in betwwen I found this little dark blue Benz and decided to purchase it and I find that it has way more pep than the 300sd. it hass 222k on it and runs like a top my only concern is a wrrrrr wrrrrr noise in the rear end that increases with speed and finaly tops out about 70 mph and you can hardly hear it after that I am wondering if it is a bad rear end or the new tires on it that have plenty of tread it shifts fine and gets great millage the only thing is the mysterious wrrrr wrrrr noise!changed rear end lube to a heavy duty lube and that didnt make it any less noisy the oil that the previous owner had in it was really thick and I am wondering if it is possible that the noise is from too thick of lube or possibly to much lube !!!!!!
lend me some insight on this!!!!
Thanks!

It could be your tires. I'd check your lube oil level first and go from there. A really good book called the Mercedes Benz Technical companion is available from Bentley Publishers and I would recommend it!
