turbo wastgate snap ring. Attack from the back?
Ive spent the better part of the afternoon trying to get the snap ring compressed so I can pull the cover and adjust the turbo wastegate. Nothing Ive done has managed to get outside the snap ring to start compressing it. Ive even stolen dental scraping implements from out of the house.
There is a plate on the back side of the turbo that is held on by 4 bolts. Can this be un bolted to allow the wastegate valve to be removed so I can get a visual on where the snap ring is on the wastegate? Even with liberal amounts of brake cleaner and everything pretty clean I can not see the ends of the snap ring. Im assuming that the ends are somewhere near the top but I can not feel them with a dental pick or a screwdriver. Everywhere I try to wedge a screwdriver to compress the snap ring I just can not get to the outside edge to get it started.

No. The only two ways to adjust it are to take the cap off or use an external boost controller.

Using a very small, flat screwdriver put it under the notched end of the spring. Pull the spring toward the inside was you work your way around the perimenter with the screwdriver. You should be able to work it out this way.

Just now broke loose. I got the dental pick to catch were the tangs met (at 12 o clock) and got one tip to pop out. Grabbed the tip with pliars and it was out in 20 seconds from that point. Whew. That thing fought me.
