Wow, what a waste, why condemn an engine to another potential failure when you've already spent $9k fixing it!? Also....9k sounds way high for an engine rebuild....should have been more like 4-5k

Something doesn't sound right. $9k should be about what it costs to have a new long block installed.

I wouldn't trust a 603 rebuild unless it was done by a shop that does a lot of them, and since 603's are rear good luck finding that. Metric rebuilds and MB factory rebuilds are the only ones that are worth anything, IMHO.

The "cheap" way of doing it, is ordering a short block from Mercedes and swapping everything over. Mercedes engines come with a warranty, I think its 4 years unlimited mileage.

If you are sports enough to play Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in your gun's chamber go ahead and buy a 350SD. It's, by a WIDE margin, the worst Diesel engine in Mercedes' long, illustrated history. Fatal engine failures without any warning as early as 50K miles are not unusual. If the car you are considering to buy has a new engine for $9,000, you know why. Better put another $9K aside for engine number 3. ANY Diesel is better than a 350SD.

Yeah but then you have to hang out in the tech forum which is boring compared to Diesel discussion

That makes absolutley no sense! the engine was rebuilt because of a bent rod so they rebuilt the engine with the same rods that messed it up in the first place!

Dont even bother looking at it, its a waste.

Old stock means they had them in stock, as in on their shelves. They didn't re-use the original rods.

An independent shop had a set of NOS 3.5 rods just gathering dust? I find that difficult to believe :/ I wouldn't expect the dealer to have rods in stock.
