81 300 how much fluid is in the tranny?

Sorry for asking such a simply question, but I’ve search the net and forum and can’t find anything about the amount of fluid the trannie will hold. I have a 81 300 D Wagon, and need to know how many quarts of oil does the automatic trannie hold. I’m hoping to pick up some
Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid: (1) 2.5-gallon container

$64.35
from Amsoil.

And what weight oil is the rear differentual?

Thanks

This is from the Hanes manual, AT 6.5 US quarts, Dexron type II. Rear gear oil, SAE 90 W hypoid gear oil, capacity 1.1 US quarts. Body style, no difference.

seems right. just over a qt in the rearend, I used mobil 1 75-90? what ever was the less expensive. one is $15/qt, other $10. at autozone.

the tranny I used valvoline atf. 2 gallons, but i had some left over. I think i posted how much it took when I did my job. that was drop the pan and drain the toque converter. I decided that I would rather change it more often than rely on/pay for synthetic.

Latitude 500,
Since you want to use Amsoil trans fluid why not go to www.amsoil.com and from the home page click on the 'online product application guide' in the red block. Type in your year '1981' then select 'Mercedes Benz' then '300TD'.
Use the second quantity which is 6.5 quarts. The first amount listed is a 'typo' error.
Pretty handy guide overall and easy to access.

mike
