He did reply to my information request. I asked if the oil change manual was present and in what year did the car hit 120k. He commented he had the stamped book but no comment on the year it reached 120k. On records he claims to have a few. Nothing going way back though. I think it is just a typical ebay type hype car. Lots of talk and no real substance. The slightly under 6k miles average per year is possible of course just not likely.

My 4000lb '91 F150 gets 17mpg while my 4000lb '77 F150 gets 11mpg.

I think this proves that weight is not the most significant factor. I would say the engine is the most critical factor. If you do mostly highway miles, like me, the drag coefficient is number 2 followed by weight. However if your driving is mostly stop and go, weight might be more important than drag.

Bottom line is that no one will buy this car that knows anything about them. Once he said that, nothing else can be trusted. Flat out. Whether by innocent mistake or whatever. End of story.

I've had 15 of these cars. 24-28 mpg. Some of you will argue that you get 30. I can believe that. But not over the period of a dozen or so cars.

I suspect it was a simple mistake. He only drove 2.5 hours and therefore it wasn't enough of a fuel burn to do an accurate measurement.

If the car lives on Benzworld street then yes it gets whatever mileage the owner says it gets. Case closed.

Must be thinking of those 5-qt. imperial gallons. Yeah, 25% more fuel per gallon would net you about 40MPG

Oh, when I bought my 79TD, the owner was convinced he was getting 40MPG... I just took the car and laughed inside.

Maybe he has really small tires...
Ask him about his 0-60 times. If he is sub-11 seconds then his speedometer/Odometer is clearly off!
