I just email him and told him to sell it @ sutherby's, cause it must be worth millions ....seeing it is the only 5cyl to ever get that kind of mileage:D

derherr65 02-12-2007 07:26 PM

It's on ebay, therefor it must be true. ;)

With the number of post claiming 26-32 MPG on this site and others I'd be suspicious about a 30% improvement.

JackG 02-12-2007 07:36 PM

Some folks just don't understand that to put a claim like that up, they lose crediability for everything else they say about the car....as in What else are they Lying about:rolleyes:

I don't think I could get that with the engine off and the car on the pushed

Since this car was mostly mercedes benz serviced you do have the oil change book? The dealers do like to fill it in. Let me know the date the car hit 120k. Do you have the service records from day one as well? This is the message I am sending him in a minute or two. Let you know what comes back. Just love those white replacement blistein shocks from the mercedes service garages. We all know they are better than blisteins. it is not all that unusual for a 300k milage car to look like this if taken care of either.

JackG 02-12-2007 08:17 PM

does anyone else see a problem here?

On Dec-04-06 at 11:58:25 PST, seller added the following information:

THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT SEEN A NEW ENGLAND WINTER THEREFOR I REPEAT IT DOES NOT HAVE RUST OR ROT.... I HAVE JUST COMPLETED A TRIP TO THE WHITE MOUNTAINS

Dec. is winter up there....no?
don't they have salt down by then, this also must be a relist

Do you mean the OEM Bilsteins, also known as KYB's? :D

At least he didn't say 40-50mpg like some do. Or "convert to biodiesel".

DslBnz 02-12-2007 09:29 PM

Not sure about the 617, but I'm sure I could eek that out of my 603 powered W126. Especially on Rt. 16.

Of course I'd have to drive a steady 50 - 55 mph, on flat surfaces with zero headwind.

I've gotten 32 - 33 mpg at a steady 65 mph, before. 40 + is not too outrageous. Closer to 50 mpg is hysterically so.

it is if you look at the terrain he is claiming to get this in and at speeds of 55-65. That car, with a strong tail wind, on a flat surface, at a steady 50mph might get close to 35.......but 40.2 BULLSHIRT

vstech 02-12-2007 09:41 PM

oh, who knows, perhaps the Ip has advanced, and he is operating with high boost, and low fuel and there is JUST the right amount of coking etc to bump up the compression ration to allow a few burned Prechamber holes to allow almost Direct Injection performance. and perhaps the Torque converter has sticking surfaces to allow near lockup efficiency, and perhaps the wax on the paint is especially slick and there was a tailwind in both directions, and the tires were overinflated. and maybe he has a very high rear ratio for performance.

or it could just be Bull$$$$

Maybe with a 603, but in reality it's tough to get over 30 mpg with a 617 regardless of conditions. Some folks have gotten into the low 30s by driving very gently, my average is closer to 25.
