upgrading to hella's
One of my low beams died on my sealed beams(left)... So I might as well upgrade to some form of non sealed beam.
I read dmorrison's(sp) thread about his upgrade.. He had the xenon bulbs which look pretty crisp.. I think im going to splurge for the 100$ ish plus shipping price with the tax money I get.. my birthday present to myself http://www.rallylights.com/hella/7in.asp the webpage isnt working when I click buy... -freaks out- |

I don't remember paying $100 for a whole set with the bulbs. Are you getting the higher grade bulbs/overwattage ones instead?

I just got my E-codes today.
I'm poor, so went the cheap way- Autopal's for $40. the lights are great, went for a test run tonite. very nice. I am happy with the lites, for the $$. unfortunatly, I would'nt recommend buying them from e-bay. I won the auction on the 5th of january. that's damn near 5 weeks. I plan on running the bulbs that were supplied-55/60's, until one burns out, then upgrading to either silverstars-$40, or some sylvania+50's, in the DOT 55/60 wattage.

Dont bother with expensive bulbs, they don't help any. Your light will be an annoying blue-ish color. I had some of those Sylvana Silverstars in my car and they burned out after a year (40 bucks!). I used cheap regular bulbs after that and the only difference was the light had a yellow tint to it instead of white. The E-codes are so much better than your sealed beams because the reflectors are designed properly.

There's a store near us that sells Denji brand lights similar to the Autopals except the store that sells them is a Japanese car tuning store (SuperAutoBacs). They go for $10-11 each without the bulb.

Still very happy with the hella lamps and bulbs. My daughter was just home this weekend for her Birthday and I drove her car. The lights are just as good as the lamps in the brand new 2007 Honda Accord.
The bulbs make the light beam more of a xenon color. More like daylight. So I will continue to buy them. We actually will have a spare set. My son's bulbs will be the 80/100Watt bulbs when we install the larger alternator. So his set he is using now will be the spares. Hella Ecode headlight beam pattern pics on my daughters 240D Dave
