Hmm, Total oil drain. a tool to blow out cooler?
I have been reading the thread about ramps and oil change, and I thought about blowing out the oil cooler.
they make those long nose air guns, perhaps putting a seal on the end and getting it bent to fit the cooler line in the filter housing... would it be advisable? possible? I do like to get as much oil out as possible, but I will not touch the Non leaking oil cooler line nuts. there is a check valve in there I believe... chime in guys and gals... John

I think you might have better results with just dumping some clean oil in the top and letting it drain?!

no, topping the filter just puts fresh oil in pan... I'm thinking there is a fitting from the cooler lines in the filter housing... not sure though.

I'd be surprised if that cooler holds a pint of oil. Don't worry about it.

I believe there is a thermostat that prevents oil circulation thru the cooler at lower temps and it will thwart your attempts to flush oil from the cooler.
Draining the cooler is not normally done since it's not neccessary. |

there are MB engines that have gone over 500k ,I doubt that they had all the oil drained out tthe cooler everytime.
but, on a side note, I have been toying with th eidea of having the rubber on my lines replaced, to save $$. but also to add a T for a temp sensor, and possibly to drain the oil.

You'd only see realistic temps once the thermostat opens. Otherwise, the temp sensor would be kept out of the loop and wouldn't register correctly.

^OK, so you wouldn't be able to monitor temps when low, but once hot you could. maybe not perfect, but what else could you do? tap the filter housing, maybe?

Tap the drain plug. A number of aftermarket temp gauges have sensors small enough to fit in the drain plug and recommend doing so.
