Dash indicator light problem
Hi, all. I have a 1984 300D and the dash indicator lights (charge, brake wear and brake) will stay on after starting the car and will stay as long as the engine is at idle. Give a tap on the gas (diesel) pedal to rev the engine and they go off and stay off until the car is started again. Not a big problem but it bugs me. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Bret

Check you alt output at idle. Could be a regulator, brushes, or diode going out.

Do the headlight brighten when you step on the pedal too? I bet your voltage regulator needs replacing. You can pull it and tell pretty easily if it's time for a new one. If the brushes are shorter than a 1/4" or so you should replace it. It's fairly easy to pull, just a couple of screws, getting to the screws can be a bit of a bear on a turbo model.

Problem fixed
Just to finish this thread. Yes, the headlights would get brighter when I stepped on the pedal. I got a new Bosch voltage regulator from Auto Parts Warehouse ($29.00), Installed it in 5 minutes. Bingo, PROBLEM FIXED!
