240D+sand?

I am taking my 240d to meet some friends in Glamis. I will have to drive about half a mile to a mile on flat sand up a dry wash to get to them. other than airing down the tires, what else can i do to prevent my poor car from burying itself?
also can i plug my cool air intake(duct tape) to prevent sand from clogging my new air cleaner?

Look and see what other kind of vehicles have made it. Walk or get a ride if it's soft/loose.

Don't worry about your duct. You should not be going fast enough to suck in much sand.

Stuck?? Brah, you could romp that gnar all day long in your 240d! just hit it!

dont plug the cold air intake unless you give it someplace else to suck air.

I'd probably have way too much fun with what you're going to be doing... :D :D

Having spent much time in sand dunes, I can say that any seal that has any oil/grease on it will collect sand. This sand with its sharp edges will cause grief eventually, especially if between the ribs of CV joints or other relative-motion parts.

Clean it well before and after.

i was thinking to plug the cool air intake only because the whole area can be a gigantic cloud of dust when the wind dies. i guess i will leave it alone. people manage to get there rv's and toy boxes out there so i am hoping i will be ok.

Just liike I told my son, "It's a Mercedes, NOT a Ford truck!"

Just in case you go anyway be sure the base of your air cleaner is sealed at the intake manifold or you will suck in dirt. If the rubber air filter mounts break it will leak.
