116 pedals in a 126

this my be a stupid question, but i have found a 116 euro in the local pick'n'pull that is a manual 4 speed. i have always wanted to convet my 126 to a 5 speed so i was looking at the pedals and thinking to my self "would those fit in my car?"

i wouldnt be surprised.

also i am told that the 123 pedal cluster will fit with a very minor alteration.

nope that car isn't a 5... but i was thinking i should grab the pedals and shift linkage

i was thinking of getting a 4 speed if a can't find a 5 and then installing a 2.88 rear end

i wouldnt recommend higher than the 346 rear end as used in the na 300 with stick.

it would be like permanently taking off in second gear!

Only problem with the 4spd, is it uses a speedo cable, instead of the electric pickup. i had to make a custom speedo cluster.

Ill take some this weekend, Basically I kinda hacked up an old 300 SD cluster to install a 240D speedo, Some dremel tool work is required,

I have removed the cruise control from my SDC, so that wasnt an issue for me.

My only issue is the speedo is designed for a 3.69 rear end setup, but my SDC will have a 2.47 rear end, so I will have to recalibrate and put a new face on the speedo after the winter ends, There is many feet of snow on the ground now, and i wont be taking the car out untill spring.

Also you will need to custom fab some shifter rods, and a driveshaft, the 240D crossmember can be used with some very minor alterations.

Oh and if your engin is an 85, then you will need a custom pilot bearing.

the engine i have is the one that came with the car... and the car is an 84. so hopefuly the pilot bearing won't be an issue. i'm going to try and get the shift linkage and the pedals out of the 116, i'm hoping that i'll be able to modify the shift linkage and rod to fit the 126. i'll know for sure how quickly this is going to go forward when i get to pick'n'pull this weekend. hopeguly the 116 is still there.

Um, that 116, is it an SD? you may want to pull the tranny, and get the flywheel and transmission. a 4 speed is better than an auto...

5 speeds arent that hard to find, you jsut have to be willing to travel to verify it is indeed a 5 speed.

i havent checked yet but 346 is default for 300D na stick? Whats a 85 Federal 300D have?

Maybe the 116 shift rods will work, I dont know, I do know that I tried to use the 240D shift rods and they were too short, So I used the longest one, as the "middle " rod, then the middle rod as the "Shortest" rod, and used the shift rod from the auto trans for the "longest" rod. There was some custome bending, and a lot of fiddleing before I got it to run throught the gears smooth. The "middle and short" rods will need to be shortened, the auto rod is slightly to short as is, but i managed to make it work.

hopefully the recess of your crank is 35 mm and not 34mm as mine was, and TomJ, I used an oilite bushing, and i have yet to run it, so wee will see how it works.

Just part of the fun, My next SEC diesel swap should go much easier. since im gonna use the auto trans.

2.88 but the 3.07 is too high in my experience. i did one with the 3.07 and do not recommend it.
