240D muffler removal a good idea?

is it ok to remove and replace the muffler with a pipe on a 81 240D?

It will get louder, is that ok? Turbo diesels are different, because the turbo acts as a noise dampener. My car is no louder without the muffler.

Quick answer is no. Way too loud, like NASCAR. You can remove resonator(keep muffler), like I did. Runs just a bit louder than normal this way.

You could keep the resonator and install a cherry bomb. It will act like a muffler for a while then as it packs with soot it will become a straight pipe but still be legal under the law.

My suggestion is to do what I plan on doing. Cutting open the muffler and cutting/pulling out the baffles.

the reason i was asking is the outlet on the muffler got ripped off and instead of buying a new muffler to replace it, just make the exhaust strait to the resonator in the rear with no muffler.

The resonator does a hell of a lot to keep things quiet. When I put my glass pack on I fired it up just to see what it sounded like with out a muffler. I was astonished how quiet it was.
